About the role
The Bus Operator is responsible for transporting people between various places including, on and off campus facilities for schooling, work and across state lines. They are responsible for driving regular routes and others transport passengers on chartered trips etc.
Responsibilities
- Drive regular routes and chartered trips
- Operate vehicles in a safe manner and various conditions
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections as well as other basic maintenance
- Work independently and exercise good judgement and discretion
- Perform general tasks such as snow removal, dusting, wiping, polishing, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, emptying trash cans, and performing duties of a Landscape Tech I
- Report to work at the required time and perform duties as assigned by the Director of Transit Dept.
- Follow established safety driving procedures and techniques
- Assist passengers with disabilities to get on and off the bus
- Interact with passengers in a professional, courteous and helpful manner
- Keep passengers informed of possible delays
- Respond calmly and in a timely manner in stressful situations
- Report accidents or other traffic disruptions to a central dispatcher
- Remain abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services and leading industry performance benchmarks
- Work effectively as a team member, embrace and foster LU’s mission
Qualifications, Credentials, And Competencies
- A high school diploma or GED
- Minimum 1+ years of related experience required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in the Transit bus driving field
- A class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) and complete a training program
- Must meet hearing and vision requirements
- Passenger and Air Brake endorsements on CDL
- Ability to lift up to 50+ pounds and perform duties of a transit bus operator in typical Virginia climate
- A desire to work with a team to accomplish goals, grow and improve, and understand/follow directions under stressful situations in a calm manner are essential to the job
- Be courteous, detail oriented, self-motivated, diligent, and trustworthy

This is a part-time, non-benefited position.
Pay
$16.83 - $24.04
