Bus Monitor-Chelsea/East Boston

Excel Academy is a network of 5 schools in Massachusetts and Rhode Island that prepares students in grades 5-12 to succeed in high school and college and engage productively in their communities. The majority of our 1,700 students identify as Latino or Hispanic and will be the first in their families to graduate from college. Responsibilities

• Support the safe and orderly transportation of students to and from school.
• Ensure students follow bus safety rules.
• Assist with boarding and exiting the bus.
• Provide additional support to students with special needs or behavioral challenges.
• Communicate regularly with school staff regarding student safety and support needs.
• Provide feedback and redirection to students on the bus to ensure they meet safety expectations.

Qualifications

• Prior experience working with children is highly preferred.
• Spanish proficiency is preferred but not required.
• Members of the community (i.e., parents) are strongly encouraged to apply.
• Sense of responsibility for the safety of students.
• Ability to communicate well with others and enforce rules calmly.
• Successful results of a Criminal Offender Record Information check.

Pay

$19.50/hour

Schedule

In the morning, meet the bus at the first stop in Chelsea (across from City Hall), and end at Excel Academy‑East Boston (58 Moore Street). In the afternoon, meet the bus at Excel Academy‑East Boston (58 Moore Street) and end at the last stop in Chelsea (across from City Hall). Morning shifts are Monday‑Friday, 7 a.m.–8 a.m.; afternoon shifts are Monday‑Thursday, 3:10 p.m.–4:10 p.m. and Friday, 1:30 p.m.–2:30 p.m.
