About the Role

The Bus Monitor assists students with special needs during transport to and from school and/or activities. This role ensures the safety and sanitation of assigned vehicles and supports the overall safety of students during loading, transit, and unloading.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with special needs and other passengers, ensuring safe loading and unloading during both routine and emergency situations.
  • Instruct students to enforce rules and regulations, maintaining their safety and well-being.
  • Supervise students' needs until they are released to a teacher, instructional assistant, parent, etc., ensuring the safe transportation of all passengers.
  • Prepare reports (e.g., incident reports, passenger misconduct) to document activities and comply with established guidelines.
  • Secure students and their equipment (e.g., restraints, wheelchair tie-downs, seat belts) to ensure their safety.
  • Attend unit meetings, in-service training, and workshops to gather necessary information for job performance.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Job-related experience is desired.

Skills

  • Preparing and maintaining accurate records.
  • Operating equipment used in transporting students with special needs.
  • Adherence to safety practices.
  • Basic math.
  • Understanding written procedures.
  • Safety practices and procedures.

Abilities

  • Schedule activities, meetings, and events.

Pay

  • Entry: $16.00 per hour
  • Intermediate: $17.50 per hour
  • Experienced: $20.00 per hour

Physical Demands

  • Frequent: Sitting.
  • Occasional: Walking.
  • Significant: Lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; fine finger dexterity.

Work is generally performed in a hazard-free environment.
