Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintain established routes and schedules consistent with safe driving practices and passenger safety.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
  • Fuel, clean and wash bus and report bus/servicing requirements.
  • Establish a positive rapport with passengers, exhibiting friendliness and genuine concern.
  • Enforce passenger conduct standards, reporting infractions as directed.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records.
  • Perform other related tasks as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum five (5) years automotive driving experience.
  • Good driving record for past five (5) years.
  • Department of Motor Vehicles report will be required.
  • Preferred supervisory experience with groups of children.
  • Will be required annually to pass all school bus driver requirements as mandated by State and Federal law.

Skills

  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Perform 40-pound minimum lift stress test.
  • Must be able to successfully pass the bus driver training course, including First Aid.
  • Ability to pass Department of Transportation physical.
  • Ability to perform all duties in accordance with applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements.
  • Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.

Physical Requirements

  • Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • May work outdoors in inclement weather.
  • May require physical mobility to move through a school campus, including up and down stairs and inside and outside.

Training

  • $25.35/hour Probation Substitute Bus Driver.
  • $33.40/hour and Probation Bus Driver: $33.72/hour after 60 workday probation period based on negotiated collective bargaining agreement.

  • Positions may be full or part-time and will be filled as specific openings are identified.
  • 2025-26 Transportation Personnel salary classification range $25.35/hour to $40.16/hour.
