About the role
The City of Janesville seeks a dedicated individual to operate a transit bus on designated routes. This position operates safely, courteously, and efficiently, adhering to established rules and standards.
Responsibilities
- Daily bus driving on designated routes throughout the JT system, as assigned.
- Conducts all operations in accordance with established rules and standards, prioritizing safety.
- Provides excellent customer service to the public.
- Fare handling, providing route and scheduling information, conducting daily pre-trip inspections, necessary paperwork, sweeping of buses, and maintaining a timely schedule.
- Safely secures mobility devices on buses.
- Performs other special projects and other job duties as assigned or required during regular and non-business hours.
Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum three years’ driving experience is required.
- Valid state-issued driver’s license is required.
- Possession or ability to obtain and maintain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and no air brake restrictions within 60 calendar days of date of hire.
- Excellent driving record, as reported by State Motor Vehicle Department.
- Excellent prior work record.
- Experience transporting passengers (coach/school bus, transit bus, paratransit, shuttle van, minibus/cutaway, taxi, rideshare, etc.) is desired.
- Customer service experience is desired.
Qualifications
- Must pass a pre-employment physical examination including drug screen.
- Must comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures, and report all unsafe activities or conditions to supervisor.
- Keeps daily record of completed tasks.
- Effectively learns and uses Information Technology processes aboard the bus, such as tablets for inspections and fare collection.
Skills
- Excellent communication skills, paired with a strong customer service background, and effective interpersonal skills.
- Ability to: Pass pre-employment physical examination including drug screen.
- Identify and report vehicle defects.
- Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures, and report all unsafe activities or conditions to supervisor.
- Keep daily record of completed tasks.
- Effectively learn and use Information Technology processes aboard the bus, such as tablets for inspections and fare collection.
