Job Summary

Operates bus on designated route and schedule, transporting only authorized students. Performs daily pre-trip inspection on assigned bus. Maintains proper student discipline according to district policies and department procedures. Keeps assigned bus clean and fueled. Completes pre-trip logs, mileage, maintenance, accident and discipline reports as required and/or requested. The district provides training to obtain necessary licensure.

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting hood, climbing and reaching to inspect engine area, bending and squatting to inspect tires, walking up and down bus aisle to check seats and exits.
  • Exposure to road dust, occasional fuel and exhaust fumes.
  • Continued braking, accelerating, steering and operation of service door and controls while driving.
  • Capable of lifting or dragging students in case of an emergency (ranging in weight from small child to full adult weight).

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or hold GED.
  • Valid Minnesota driver's license with a good driving record and at least 3 years of driving experience (in any type of vehicle).
  • Prefer individuals available to work mornings and afternoons.
  • Enjoy working with children.
  • Demonstrates and role models positive, safe and responsible behavior.
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency working with a culturally, ethnically, racially and socioeconomically diverse school community is preferred.

Compensation / Benefits

  • According to contractual agreement (based on 2025-27 contract).
  • Buses: $24.90 - 27.28 Hourly.
  • All employees eligible for retirement plan; positions of 23 or more hours per week eligible for health, dental, life and long-term disability insurance plans.
