Building Technician I
About the role
The Building Technician I is responsible for operating various types of building systems, machinery, and tools in a safe, efficient manner to maintain, analyze, repair, and perform semi-skilled and skilled improvements to town facilities and equipment. This position maintains and repairs mechanical and electrical operational systems including heating, air conditioning, ventilation, plumbing, electrical lighting, and distribution.
Responsibilities
- Implement systems and procedures for organizing and updating preventative maintenance schedules of the town’s buildings and equipment.
- Maintain daily records and generate regular facility inspection reports of all maintenance activities.
- Inspect and monitor, daily, weekly, monthly, and bi-annually operational systems in town buildings for overall condition.
- Prioritize and perform scheduled and unscheduled preventative maintenance and repairs on a variety of equipment and buildings in a timely manner.
- Provide technical assistance in creating scope of work repairs, projects, and service contracts for all disciplines.
- Identify and recommend improvements in divisional and departmental operations to ensure maintenance functions are efficient and cost-effective.
- Attend staff meetings to report problems or situations and resolution with maintenance and operations.
- Work cooperatively with personnel in the performance of assigned duties to maximize the efficiency and quality of work.
- Perform specialized installation, fabrication, and/or repair maintenance of town facilities and equipment.
- Observe and enforce proper safety precautions as outlined in the Facility Maintenance Procedures Manual and as stated in the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for the variety of chemicals and solvents used in the facility.
- Take proper safety precautions, anticipate unsafe circumstances, and act accordingly to prevent accidents.
- Use all required safety equipment.
- Purchase, repair, and inventory maintenance material tools and equipment.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work and inventory area.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience working with technical and maintenance operations in a similar facility or related construction field.
- Possession of Colorado driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Ability to operate a Town vehicle safely and legally.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of basic mechanics, carpentry, plumbing, and other repair techniques, tools, and equipment.
- Knowledge of and skilled in BAS (Building Automation Systems) integration of computer controls and BMS (Building Management Systems) application software for equipment management and repairs.
- Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, swimming pool, circulation, boiler, and plumbing systems.
- Knowledge of a wide variety of cleaning supplies, solvents, lubricants, and swimming pool sanitizing chemicals.
- Ability to give verbal and written instructions and to inspect the work of others while acting as a lead worker.
- Ability to work courteously and effectively with the public and staff to provide a high level of service.
- Ability to maintain harmonious relations among staff and promote efficiency.
- Ability to communicate in English effectively both verbally and in writing; Spanish is considered a plus.
