Building Systems Technician

About the role

This position provides services and support in critical patient care areas, including the Emergency Department, Linen & Central Services, Pediatric, Neonatal, and other Intensive Care Units, inpatient care areas requiring overnight stays, Psychiatric & Complex Intervention Units, Transplant Units, Labor & Delivery, Cath Labs, and a Heliport. Support is also provided for the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) along with the areas and occupants of a Chapel and Convent.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, repair, and diagnose complex, critical mechanical systems and portable equipment, including air handling equipment, fire alarm systems, building automation systems, fluid pumping for cooling and heating, security card access, refrigeration, freezer alarm systems, boilers, and other building electronic systems
• Complete Preventive Maintenance (PM) per policies and procedures following the CMMS timeline, with completion rate in alignment with The Joint Commission requirements; duties include belt replacement, lubrication, filter changing, and pressure washing inside of air handling equipment
• Respond, investigate, and solve all emergency and repair calls received
• Communicate with all maintenance shops through work order systems and with on-call maintenance staff as necessary
• Work with others in planning and scheduling modifications and repairs to systems with minimal disruption to the mission while meeting fiscal constraints
• Remain alert to all aspects of equipment when responding to customer requests and communicate concerns to appropriate personnel
• Provide guidance to maintenance and security staff on facility issues
• Possess excellent verbal, written, and human relations skills to interact with staff, visitors, and patients

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or two-year degree from a technical college related to a Building Infrastructure System maintenance program, OR completion of a one-year trade-specific program (four years of military experience in a related field may substitute for the educational experience requirements)
• Experience working with computers and various building control systems
• Electrical or Plumbing license helpful

Pay

$26.30 – $40.98 / hour based upon union contract

Schedule

Full time, 40 hours per week, 80 hours per pay period. Typically 10-hour shifts: 2:30pm – 12:30pm (Wednesday through Saturday). Flexibility required for scheduled overtime, planned and unplanned absences, training, and holiday scheduling. Saturdays included.
