About the role

Seeking an Energy Systems Engineer to help design and deploy energy monitoring and submetering systems across commercial and industrial facilities. This role is focused heavily on the front end of the engineering process: assessing facilities, understanding electrical and mechanical systems, determining what should be monitored, and designing the infrastructure needed to capture accurate energy data. The ideal candidate has strong engineering fundamentals and enjoys working directly in facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct onsite facility audits and assess electrical, mechanical, gas, and water systems
  • Identify major loads, existing infrastructure, and opportunities for energy monitoring
  • Design submetering and energy data acquisition systems for commercial and industrial facilities
  • Determine appropriate meter locations, sensors, CTs, PTs, gateways, and related equipment
  • Develop system layouts, points lists, and technical documentation for field deployment
  • Design integrations between meters, building systems, and monitoring platforms
  • Work with BACnet, Modbus, BMS, BAS, and other building communication systems
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, Project Management, and internal engineering teams during installation
  • Support commissioning and verify communications, point mapping, scaling, and data accuracy
  • Troubleshoot metering, controls, communication, and system integration issues in the field
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for customers during site assessments and implementation

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
  • 3+ years of experience in building systems, controls, commissioning, energy engineering, MEP, or facility engineering
  • Strong understanding of commercial or industrial electrical and mechanical systems
  • Experience conducting facility assessments, system audits, commissioning, or field engineering work
  • Experience with metering, submetering, controls, building automation, or data acquisition systems
  • Understanding of CT/PT fundamentals and electrical metering concepts
  • Familiarity with BACnet, Modbus, BAS, BMS, or similar building integration technologies
  • Ability to read electrical one-lines, panel schedules, system diagrams, and technical drawings
  • Strong engineering judgment and hands-on troubleshooting ability
  • Comfortable working directly with customers, contractors, and internal project teams
  • Willingness to travel approximately ~25–50%

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in manufacturing, industrial, processing, distribution, or other complex facilities
  • Background in building automation, controls, commissioning, MEP, or systems integration
  • Experience designing or deploying electrical, gas, or water submetering systems
  • Certified Energy Manager, EIT, PE, commissioning, BAS, or controls certifications
  • Associates degree with 5+ years of directly relevant field implementation experience may be considered in place of a bachelor’s degree

Pay

$88,000–$110,000 base salary + Gain Share opportunity up to 10%

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, approximately 90% employer-paid
  • 4% 401(k) match
  • Open PTO
  • Onsite gym
  • Weekly team lunches
  • Team outings and company events
