About the role

Avison Young is seeking an experienced building engineer to support the operations of a portfolio of office, industrial, and retail properties in the greater Orlando area. The Building Engineer will assist the Property Manager in managing the repair, maintenance, and installation of mechanical equipment, utilities, and facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance and support in the repair, maintenance, and installation of mechanical equipment, machines, tools, and equipment.
  • Maintain and operate utility systems to ensure continuous supply of heat, steam, electric power, gas, or air.
  • Participate in preventive maintenance programs and collaborate with other engineering and maintenance staff.
  • Inspect operating machines and equipment for compliance with operational standards.
  • Identify and manage inventory levels, including proper storage and knowledge of use.
  • Avoid hazards and comply with safety procedures, including the Hazard Communication Program and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Assist in identifying safety procedures, equipment, and protective clothing requirements.
  • Respond to work orders and assist in applying key control policies and procedures.
  • Occasionally perform on-call and overtime duties as directed by the Property Manager.

Requirements

  • Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic knowledge of computer.
  • Valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • Periodically perform on call and overtime duties as outlined by the Property Manager.
  • Must hold a journeyman’s level license or acceptable equivalent skill level for all mechanical and control systems, including plumbing, HVAC, and electrical.
  • Refrigerant certification is required.
  • Licenses required by state/province or local municipalities may be required.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Frequently sit and reach with hands and arms.
  • Sometimes climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Move freely throughout the property, including moving up and down stairs.
  • May occasionally be exposed to machine noise and inclement weather conditions.
  • Work in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions.
  • Exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
  • Exposure to noise levels in the work environment that are usually moderate to loud.
  • Work in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions.
