Job Summary

The Building Services Specialist’s primary duties are to perform preventative & corrective maintenance on emergency backup generators, transfer switches, fuel tanks, and auxiliary equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative & corrective maintenance on stationary and portable generators.
  • Perform preventive & corrective maintenance on fuel tanks and monitoring systems.
  • Mobilize portable generators as needed.
  • Maintain all necessary state certifications required for generator and fuel system maintenance.
  • Comply with all company and DEQ regulations.
  • Liaison with DEQ representative regarding annual operating certificates.
  • Keep up with fast paced PM schedule.
  • Make decisions in the field based on analysis, technical knowledge, and capabilities of equipment.
  • May require working evening or night hours, overtime, emergency call outs, weekends, long hours during emergency conditions and out-of-town assignments.

Required Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Five (5) years of experience in generator and/or diesel engine maintenance & repair.
  • Able to operate various hand/power tools & associated test equipment/devices/meters.
  • Must have good organizing and planning skills to manage multiple job assignments.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and satisfactory driving record.
  • Must complete a pre-employment drug screening.

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently while using sound judgment and reasoning skills.
  • Able to prioritize and collaborate effectively with other personnel to meet deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively within critical deadlines.
  • Provides excellent customer service.

  • Business Services Specialist work involves driving a motor vehicle approximately 25% of the time and must be able to regularly and safely perform all functions of operating a motor vehicle.
  • Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary to frequently stand, walk, climb, or sit for prolonged periods of time and regularly position oneself (e.g. bend, twist, reach, grasp, push, pull) to handle, lift, and carry objects over 50 lbs.

Work Environment

  • A Building Services Specialist will sometimes work in tight quarters and is required to work with the following chemicals while performing maintenance duties: gasoline, lubricating oils and greases, number 2 diesel fuel, fiberglass, contact cleaner/solvents.
