About the role

Performs intermediate semi-skilled and skilled work in a variety of maintenance, repair, and modification of buildings, facilities and related equipment, and related work as required.

Essential Duties of the Position

Performs monthly OSHA-type inspections of all town facilities and buildings.
Affords assistance in general plumbing maintenance and repair including repairing water lines and restroom fixtures.
Affords assistance in general maintenance duties such as general HVAC repairs, roofing repairs, painting objects, restrooms, shelters, buildings, dugouts, etc.
Repairs and maintains fences, shelters and tables.
Affords assistance in general carpentry and repair tasks.
Affords assistance in flooring, asphalt and concrete repair or installation.
Serves on the Town safety committee.
Operates heavy equipment including tractors, excavators, gators, and backhoes.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Education And Experience

Knowledge of the tools, materials and equipment used in general building maintenance and grounds keeping work;
Knowledge of materials, equipment, tools and techniques of the standard building trades;
Knowledge of safety precautions applicable to the duties of the class;
Knowledge of methods used in the maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds;
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions;
Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

High school diploma or GED and up to 2 years of experience in the performance of maintenance and repair work. Or a combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, abilities, and skills to complete the essential functions and job responsibilities of this position.

Possession of valid NC pesticide application license preferred within six months of hire. Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina.

This position requires weekends and evenings and is subject to Emergency Call Back during emergency situations and inclement weather.

Supplemental Information

Physical requirements involve medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects, including the human body.
The following physical abilities may be required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, manual dexterity, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and/or walking.
Work frequently requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires exposure to extreme cold, extreme heat, and bloodborne pathogens, and may require wearing specialized personal protective equipment.
Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. outside or inside around maintenance equipment and repair tools).
May be required to work during inclement weather events.
