BUILDING SERVICE WORKER- CERMAK HEALTH SERVICES
This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement between Cook County and SEIU. Internal eligible applicants will be considered prior to external applicants.

Pay
Pay range: $22.759 – $24.146. Starting salary is based on documented years of relevant experience at the time of application.
About the role
Under direct supervision, performs routine cleaning and maintenance duties in assigned areas of a health care facility.
Responsibilities
- Cleans and maintains assigned area by emptying garbage, sweeping, dusting, mopping, and wet mopping floors.
- Periodically strips, waxes, and buffs floors.
- Washes beds, cabinets, windowsills, spots walls, and bathrooms.
- Keeps areas stocked with adequate supplies such as soap, toilet paper, and paper towels.
- May remove and hand drapes and cubicle curtains for assigned areas.
- May move patients, furniture, or equipment.
- May perform outdoor maintenance tasks such as raking leaves, planting flowers, planting grass, shoveling snow, spreading salt, cutting grass, and removing rubbish.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED (must provide proof at time of interview).
- Two (2) years of floor maintenance experience.
- Knowledge and proficiency in operating sanitation and maintenance equipment such as buffers, strippers, burnishers, and cleaning/waxing materials.
- Ability to read and write English, and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to organize and schedule work to be completed within allocated time.
- Ability to work effectively with co-workers, Department of Correction staff, and patients.
- Regular bending, lifting, carrying, pulling, and pushing; able to lift 40 lbs.
Physical and Environmental Demands
This position functions within a healthcare environment. The incumbent must adhere to all hospital and department-specific safety requirements, including:
- Compliance with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Hand washing and sanitizing practices.
- Department-specific engineering and work practice controls.
- Work area safety precautions as specified by hospital-wide policy and departmental procedures.

Veteran Preference
Preference is given to honorably discharged Veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces for not less than 6 months of continuous service. To qualify:

Additional Requirements
- Degrees awarded outside the United States (except those from U.S. territories or Canada) must be credentialed by an approved U.S. credential evaluation service (NACES or AICE). Original credentialing documents must be presented at the time of interview.
