Essential Functions
- Administer and enforce adopted International Building Codes and applicable City ordinances.
- Review building permit applications and construction documents for code compliance.
- Cook up and perform or oversee residential and commercial building inspections.
- Issue permits, certificates of occupancy, and related approvals.
- Interpret building codes and provide technical guidance to contractors, architects, engineers, and the public.
- Maintain accurate permit, inspection, and code compliance records.
- Work closely with the Fire Marshal, Planning, Public Works, and City Administration.
- Respond to citizen inquiries regarding construction and development requirements.
- Aid with code updates and recommend improvements to permitting processes.
Minimum Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- An associate's or bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field is preferred.
- Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in building inspections, construction, code enforcement, or plan review are required.
- Knowledge of the International Building Code, International Residential Code, and related model codes is necessary.
- Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills are essential.
- A valid Texas driver's license is required.
