About the Role

The Department of Facilities & Administrative Services provides a broad array of services to the campus community through offices including Access Control Services, Automotive Services, Building Services, Energy & Central Utilities, Facilities Operations, Grounds & Landscape Maintenance Services, Mailing & Receiving Services, Occupational Safety and Environmental Services, and Risk Management Services.

Under the direction of the Supervisor, Building Maintenance Workers Movers perform varied, routine, and moderately physically strenuous tasks involved in campus-wide department moves and special events setups. This role routinely interacts with campus constituents.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct department moves across campus, including loading and unloading furniture and related materials on and off trucks, ensuring appropriate padding and protection to prevent damage.
  • Relocate/move desks, chairs, tables, bookcases, artwork, refrigerators, and other office equipment and furniture.
  • Arrange and set up furniture and associated items for classrooms, offices, student rooms, and conference rooms as instructed.
  • Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Assemble and disassemble furniture as needed.
  • Conduct event setups and breakdowns across campus, including chairs, tables, equipment, boxes, furniture, and table tops.
  • Remove trash and e-waste following events in a timely and effective manner.
  • Assist in various maintenance activities as required, including residential hall cleaning during the summer and snow removal as part of the Building Service snow team.
  • Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of experience in cleaning and maintaining furniture, fixtures, offices, buildings, or related.
  • Ability to handle and control heavy cleaning equipment and to lift and move moderately heavy objects (ability to lift more than sixty pounds).
  • Knowledge of problems, procedures, and methods used to analyze and determine move work and materials needed.
  • Ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written directions and to learn quickly from oral and written explanations and demonstrations.
  • Ability to keep necessary records.
  • Appointees may be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of procedures and methods adequate in large-scale cleaning and maintenance work.

Pay

$17.00/hour

Schedule

Full-time, 40 hours per week. Expected term: January 1, 2026 – various; extension contingent on funding and business need.
