About the role
The City of Creve Coeur is seeking a motivated individual to join our Recreation Department as an Ice Arena Building Maintenance Technician. This position plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, clean, and well-functioning recreation facility for residents and visitors.
Responsibilities
- Ice maintenance: cuts and edges ice surface, maintains a level ice surface for optimal skating conditions and operational efficiency. Maintains ice surfacer, changes blades safely and prepares the ice edger to ensure they are safe and well maintained. (30%)
- Monitors Ammonia Ice System; maintains daily logs of equipment readings. Works with preventive maintenance company to ensure the system runs at peak performance. Informs the Director of any issues that arise immediately. Trains staff on safety measures to ensure safety protocols are followed. (10%)
- Performs general repairs (electrical, plumbing, carpentry) as needed in and around the facility. Checks buildings for wear and tear or other damage to ensure everything is working properly. (15%)
- Completes maintenance checklist; indicates on the checklist what needs attention and writes out any needed repairs to ensure a safe and well-maintained ice arena. This includes, but is not limited to, all rooms and parking lots, trash area and green space. (5%)
- Purchases supplies and works with the supervisor to complete requisitions for any purchase totaling more than $1,500 by following specified purchasing procedures as established by the Department of Finance and the City of Creve Coeur. (5%)
- Cleans the facility, empties outside trash cans and completes room set-ups and tear-downs at the facility on a regular basis. Areas include ice and golf restrooms, ice arena lobby, meeting rooms, ice locker rooms and related areas. All basic janitorial principles apply, including the use of a power scrubber and proper chemical usage. (20%)
- Demonstrates a commitment to public duty and presents oneself as a credible and knowledgeable representative of the city to maintain public trust by following the principles of “Our Commitments to Character-Driven Professionalism.” Builds and maintains positive relationships while serving all internal and external customers using effective communication and team-building skills; seeks to actively listen and provides prompt assistance to others; equally treats others with dignity and respect; problem-solves; accepts responsibility for self and work product. Requirements
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- One or more years of equivalent or related experience is preferred, but training will be provided.
- Basic computer skills are required to send/receive emails, write memorandums and generate reports using Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to perform general maintenance skills (carpentry, electrical and plumbing).
- Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Able to follow oral and written instructions.
- Can effectively organize and prioritize work.
- Able to work independently.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations related to purchasing, inventory, and maintenance operations.
- Has strength and dexterity to operate various hand tools and power tools.
- Able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds for short distances.
- Must have good hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to safely maneuver on wet, icy, and slippery surfaces; maintain balance while operating equipment and performing maintenance tasks; and work effectively in cold-temperature environments associated with ice rink operations.
- Able to stoop, bend, climb and crawl as needed to adequately maintain the ice arena.
Pay
(Grade 8) Minimum $48,868; Mid-Range $58,618 (starting salary dependent on qualifications)
Schedule
Monday through Friday daytime hours, but requires a flexible work schedule based on facility operations and programming needs, as well as emergency call-ins as necessary.
