About the role
This is a full-time, 12-month position within the Facilities department. The Building Maintenance Worker performs semi-skilled maintenance tasks under general supervision, reporting to the Building Maintenance Worker I or II.
Responsibilities
- Performs semi-skilled work in masonry, carpentry, electrical, or painting operations.
- Installs and repairs wiring systems, electrical fixtures, and equipment.
- Repairs windows, doors, floors, walls, and other parts of buildings.
- Performs interior and exterior painting where quantity is prioritized over fine quality.
- Installs and repairs general plumbing equipment, such as sinks, toilets, and baths.
- Assists in cleaning and repairing boilers, pumps, heaters, pipe lines, valves, and traps.
- Mixes plaster and concrete; assists in laying brick, plastering walls, and finishing concrete work.
- Operates trucks, automobiles, air compressors, and other motorized equipment.
- Participates in general grounds maintenance activities.
- Serves as a general handyman performing a variety of semi-skilled duties.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Two years of experience in general building maintenance or building trades work (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, or electrical).
- Equivalent combination of training and experience may be accepted.
- Valid New York State Driver License required.
- High School Diploma or equivalency preferred.
- Candidates must have been legal residents of New York State for at least four months immediately preceding the date of hire. Preference given to Rensselaer County residents.
Pay
Hourly rate of $22.26 for a 40-hour work week.
