About the role
The top salary range for this position currently reaches $77,216.96, PLUS, an excellent benefits package! The position will receive a 5.0% salary increase in July 2027; bringing the top step salary to $81,077.85.
Responsibilities
- Performs carpentry, painting, masonry, glazing, plumbing, electrical and other similar repair;
- Works on construction, alteration, and installation work to City buildings and similar projects;
- Repairs, adjusts, maintains, and coordinates replacement of electrical and plumbing fixtures such as sprinkler systems, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) equipment, controls, and compressors, lighting system, public address system, and electric clocks;
- Repairs, refinishes, and remodels furniture, desks, chairs, doors, windows, cabinets, and other installations;
- Installs and repairs door handles, latches, lock pulleys, hydraulic door checks, springs, and other building components;
- Enforces and follows standard safety practices in the proper and safe use of tools and equipment;
- Makes recommendations for improved methods of work and safety features;
- Operates a variety of hand power tools and other types of equipment;
- Assists in training custodians in the proper use of a variety of tools and equipment;
- Provides temporary relief in similar occupational fields as necessary;
- Schedules and performs preventative and programmed maintenance functions;
- Oversees the repair and maintenance work of temporary employees, contract employees, and outside contractors;
- Identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves maintenance related problems;
- Organizes and participates in facility walk-throughs and communicates with contractors;
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A typical combination is: High School Diploma or GED equivalent and two years of experience in building trades or building maintenance including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical, plumbing, and/or carpentry work.
- Knowledge of building maintenance; various building, landscape, facilities, and/or construction trades such as HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, electrical installation, maintenance and construction, landscape maintenance, and irrigation systems; methods, practices, and equipment used in building maintenance and repair work; janitorial materials and tools; and current safety practices applicable to building trade work.
- Ability to operate a variety of equipment and tools used in building maintenance; read and interpret construction plans and specifications; provide internal customer service by investigating complaints; work effectively with City staff, the public, and private contractors on building projects; understand and carry out oral and written directions; and use a computer and its applications to perform the essential and important functions of the job.
