Building Maintenance Technician
Description
The City of Allen seeks a Building Maintenance Technician to support the maintenance, repair, and operation of city facilities. This role involves a variety of skilled maintenance tasks, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and general building systems. Responsibilities also include responding to work orders, conducting preventive maintenance, and assisting various departments.
- Performs maintenance and repairs on HVAC and refrigeration systems, electrical systems, plumbing systems, lighting systems, and building interiors and exteriors.
- Completes electrical work requests such as replacing lights, ballasts, light switches, and electric plugs, installing security cameras and systems, and performing preventative maintenance on electrical systems.
- Completes plumbing work requests such as replacing flush valve kits, bowl wax, and faucets, unclogging drains and commodes, and performing preventative maintenance on plumbing systems.
- Provides assistance to various departments by delivering furniture and supplies, assembling furniture and work stations, installing electrical and computer lines in workstations, setting up for meetings and events, and picking up and delivering mail.
- Completes basic HVAC repairs/pump repair by installing filters, cleaning condensers, troubleshooting equipment, and performing preventative maintenance on HVAC systems.
- Responds promptly and effectively to maintenance requests, emergency repairs, and facility issues to minimize disruptions to city operations.
- Conducts preventive maintenance inspections and reads and interprets building, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing layouts and technical manuals.
- Adapts to changing priorities, work assignments, and schedules while maintaining high-quality workmanship and customer service.

Job Requirements
- Education & Experience: High School diploma or equivalent plus two (2) years of relevant maintenance experience. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: High School diploma or equivalent plus two (2) years of relevant maintenance experience.
- Special Requirements: Valid Class C Driver's License. Forklift Operator or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment. HVAC and refrigeration certification preferred. For Event Center positions, a Basic Ammonia Refrigeration Certification (or ability to obtain it within one year).
- Physical Demands / Work Environment: Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Comfortable working with tools and machinery and in potentially hazardous environments. Physical strength to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50-100 lbs occasionally.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration, electrical, plumbing systems, general building maintenance procedures and techniques, basic carpentry, customer service and communication skills, ability to work independently and prioritize tasks, knowledge of safety practices and hazard recognition, skills in diagnosing and repairing maintenance issues involving buildings and park facilities, performing maintenance tasks safely and efficiently, communicating effectively with team members, supervisors, and the public.
