Building Maintenance Helper - Repair & Maintenance Operations Section (Honolulu Unit)

About the role

The Building Maintenance Helper, BC-05, is responsible for performing a variety of building maintenance repair work. The position involves tasks such as repairing and replacing various building components, installing and maintaining plumbing and electrical systems, and performing general repairs and cleaning.

Responsibilities

• Repairs and replaces window panes, screens, door locks, door bumpers, bathroom accessories, linoleum and tile floor covering.
• Replaces shower valves, hose bibbs, lavatory, service, laundry tray and sink faucets, washers, stems, packings and gaskets.
• Clears clogged toilets and drains; adjusts, repairs or replaces toilet flush valves, closet tank fixtures, seats, closet screws and close coupled closet bolts.
• Makes minor repairs to electric wiring; replaces fixtures, switches and electric outlets.
• Mixes cement or mortar and performs minor repair; lays pipe, tears out rotted lumber, stacks materials and supplies, etc.
• Uses a variety of hand tools and some power equipment in the performance of work; cleans, sharpens and services tools and equipment used in the work.
• Operates a vehicle in the transportation of materials; repairs power lawn mowers, household appliances, small motor and other auxiliary equipment.
• May assist in the installation, maintenance, and repairing of plumbing, water and sewer systems in offices, houses and other structures.

Requirements

• Experience and Training: Two years of work experience in performing a variety of building maintenance repair work or its equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Licensing: Some positions require a current, valid Driver's License.
• Lifting Requirement: Ability to lift/carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted, or lift/carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds assisted by another person and/or use of equipment.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include possession of the required number of years of experience and meeting the lifting requirement. Experience and training must be of such scope and level of responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.
