Building Maintenance & Custodian

About the role

This full-time, nonexempt position performs daily cleaning and basic maintenance & repairs across several Burlington locations. Daily cleaning accounts for roughly half of the role, with additional weekly and deep cleaning at other sites as needed. General maintenance duties include moving small furniture (up to 50 lbs.), replacing lighting, painting, exterior maintenance, fixture upkeep, and coordinating with outside vendors on larger projects.

Responsibilities

• Custodial: Daily cleaning at the Burlington Drop-in, Pearl Street Residence, The Landing, and The Nightly Shelter (vacuuming, trash removal, surface cleaning, mopping, restrooms, offices).
• Weekly extended cleaning at the Burlington Drop-in, Pearl Street Residence, and The Landing.
• Twice-weekly cleaning at other Burlington properties.
• Proactive upkeep of cleanliness and appearance across Spectrum properties.
• Custodial duties average about 20 hours per week.
• Maintenance: Basic repairs and upkeep of Spectrum property, spaces, and furniture, including staff maintenance requests, furniture assembly, painting, general building maintenance, package/furniture delivery between locations, minor landscaping/exterior cleaning, and vendor coordination for larger projects.

Knowledge and Skills Required

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in general construction or minor repairs & maintenance.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Self-starter able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong organizational, record-keeping, and fiscal monitoring skills.
• Effective communication and time-management abilities; adaptable to changing priorities.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Physical ability to stoop, kneel, bend, push/pull, and lift.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly and 80 lbs. occasionally; push/pull up to 50 lbs. regularly and 80 lbs. occasionally.
• Commitment to ongoing diversity, equity, and cultural competency training.

Work Environment

Fast-paced environment requiring frequent independent work, standing for long periods, walking, and driving between downtown Burlington locations.

Pay

$23.00 – $25.00 per hour.

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 3:00 pm (40 hours per week).
