Building Mainenance Assistant

City of Edinburg in Edinburg, TX is seeking a dedicated Building Maintenance Assistant to maintain assigned City buildings using appropriate tools and materials.

About the role

As a Building Maintenance Assistant, you will perform repairs, general maintenance, and custodial tasks for city buildings. Your work ensures the safety, functionality, and appearance of municipal facilities.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair, and perform general upkeep of city buildings
• Follow assigned work schedules, including custodial duties as needed
• Perform light maintenance such as changing light bulbs and using ladders
• Report safety hazards and damages in city buildings
• Secure buildings after working hours as required
• Assist in setting up and breaking down decorations and equipment for special events
• Repair wood surfaces, paint structures, and replace defective electrical switches and fixtures
• Assist with projects in compliance with City, State, and safety codes
• Provide support to other divisions within the department as needed

Qualifications

• High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
• Community college, vocational, technical, or correspondence school certificates are beneficial
• Educational substitute: related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• No experience required; one year of general carpentry, plumbing, repairs, or job training is preferred
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
• Current and valid Texas Class "C" driver’s license
