About the role

This position is responsible for the Statewide oversight of inspection activities for Building and facilities construction projects. The role acts as a field representative for facilities management regarding progress and problem resolution, providing technical assistance in support of implementation, oversight, and review of activities. The position collaborates with the Construction Project Manager and reports to the Statewide Facilities Management Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Observes and inspects ongoing building construction work
  • Resolves differences in interpretation of plans and specifications
  • Inspects to ensure contractor builds facilities and related structures in accordance with codes, plans, and specifications
  • Performs inspections and enters field report data into construction software
  • Attends monthly construction meetings and participates in discussion of project and coordinates activities
  • Documents work progress and issues arising throughout the scope of the project
  • Distributes inspection reports to all necessary parties
  • Monitors contractor's operations to ensure compliance with contract terms and specifications
  • Attends pre-construction and project progress meetings
  • Ensures contractors perform work in accordance with plans and specifications
  • Communicates directly with the Construction Project Manager concerning issues with inspection findings

Requirements

  • High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies
  • 3 years of experience in building and facilities inspections, or other closely related code compliance inspection activities
  • Valid driver’s license

Qualifications

College education and/or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year-per-year basis.

  • Considerable knowledge of applicable governmental laws, rules, and regulations
  • Applicable plans, specifications, and estimates preparation, review, processing, and compliance requirements
  • Methods for reviewing plans and specifications for compliance with requirements
  • Applicable inspection methods, procedures, and techniques
  • Applicable testing methods, processes, and procedures
  • Electrical inspection standards, codes, and procedures
  • Project scheduling and coordination activities
  • Basic building construction principles
  • Building design
  • Building and fire codes
  • Building code standards and industry guidelines
  • Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and building codes
  • Governmental laws, regulations, and applicable codes
  • Expert skill in reading and interpreting applicable plans, schematics, blueprints, and maps
  • Proficient skill in the use of Autodesk BIM 360 and ACC Build construction software
  • Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external
  • Preparing and maintaining confidential and sensitive records, files, and reports
  • Interpreting applicable information
  • Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems
  • Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to read plans, specifications, and contract documents
  • Ability to take ownership, work independently, prioritize workload, and deliver quality results on time and efficiently

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

The role is subject to extreme cold and heat, noise, hazards, and atmospheric conditions. The position requires wearing protective gear, lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing, kneeling, crouching, and standing for prolonged periods.
