About the role
CAP Government, Inc. is seeking a licensed Building Plans Examiner and Inspector for inspection and plan review services of construction projects. The work involves interpreting and applying regulations to customer relations, reviewing building construction blueprints, product approvals, shop drawings, and other project documents. Some travel may be required for inspections and managing projects in the assigned area. Candidates must possess a professional demeanor, technical and industry experience, and be a team player.
Responsibilities
- Conduct examination of building permit applications, including blueprints, specifications, surveys, product approvals, shop drawings, and all other required documents for compliance with the Florida Building Code and other regulations.
- Prepare written and electronic reports and issue notices of correction.
- Recognize, evaluate, and properly resolve unique problems or situations.
- Meet with design professionals, contractors, and other interested parties to discuss technical code issues arising during the plan review process.
- Prepare and maintain all required records and reports.
- Inspect buildings and other facilities for compliance with the Florida Building Code and related regulations as required by the supervisor.
- Receive and respond to inquiries from homeowners, property owners, contractors, architects, and engineers regarding codes and review procedures.
- Perform general administrative/office work, including attending meetings, preparing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, and answering the telephone.
- Receive, review, prepare, and/or submit various records and reports, including building plans, shop drawings, engineering reports, permit applications, job pricing records, code compliance complaints, and correspondence.
- Interact and communicate with supervisors, co-workers, department personnel, property/home owners, developers, contractors, architects, engineers, County personnel, and the general public.
- Review permits for residential and commercial projects to ensure conformance with applicable codes.
- Enforce and explain pertinent sections of the applicable codes; issue verbal and written notices of code violations and citations.
- Assist in resolving complex and sensitive customer service issues personally, by telephone, or in writing.
- Maintain records and documents of customer service issues and resolutions.
- Research problems and complaints regarding commercial and residential work and code compliance.
- Maintain high ethical, honesty, and moral standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager.
Requirements
- Licensed General Contractor for a minimum of five (5) years.
- State of Florida Plan Review License (PX) in building, or State of Florida Inspector License (BN) in building, or ICC Residential & Commercial Plans Examiner and/or Inspection certification in building.
- Must be certified or certifiable as a Building Plans Examiner by the Miami-Dade and/or Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals (BORA).
- Knowledge of the Florida Building Code and other regulations pertaining to construction and development.
- Ability to understand and interpret codes and evaluate project proposals and projects under construction to verify conformance with code requirements.
