Job Responsibilities
- Maintains high traffic areas around SCDJJ with focus on ornamental plants.
- Plants, prunes, and cares for ornamental plants on site.
- Assists with basic repairs of equipment assigned.
- Performs general grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, trimming, and blowing off of hard surfaces.
- Confers with staff and supervisors to coordinate repair activities.
- Responsible for trash removal in assigned area.
- Performs other related job duties as required.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
- A high school diploma and custodial or groundskeeping experience directly related to the area of employment.
- A valid driver's license and be 21 years of age.
- Knowledge of maintaining grounds; including but not limited to trimming of shrubs, bushes and trees.
- Grounds maintenance equipment/repair.
- Good oral communication skills a must.
- Extended work hours as work load dictates.
- Bending, stooping, climbing ladders, squatting, and lifting of 40 pounds or more unassisted regularly.
- A valid SC Driver's license.
- Working in adverse weather conditions and responding to emergencies as needed.
- Working in a secured facility, around incarcerated youth.
- Direct and indirect contact with youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice.
Preferred Qualifications
- A high school diploma and at least 5 years of related experience (Horticulture, Groundskeeping, Landscaping).
