Building Facilities Technician

About the role

The City of Williamsburg is seeking applicants for the Building Facilities Technician position. This non‑exempt, full‑time role is responsible for performing skilled work in the maintenance of the City’s public buildings and parking garages, including electrical, street and park lighting, plumbing, and HVAC systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repair work on public buildings and parking garages.
• Service electrical systems, including street and park lighting.
• Maintain and troubleshoot plumbing systems.
• Maintain, repair, and service HVAC equipment.
• Diagnose issues and implement corrective actions across mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Three (3) years of experience in construction, building maintenance, and/or general repair work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid Virginia driver’s license.
• Acceptable criminal background, DMV check, and drug screen results.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications in HVAC, electrical, or related fields.
• Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment and systems, with experience troubleshooting and diagnosing issues.
• Strong technical knowledge of system maintenance practices and procedures.
