Building Engineer/Senior Building Engineer

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Maintains building system operations and performance.
• Utilizes various trade skills such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, roofing, heating and cooling.
• Oversees and inspects work performed by outside contractors.
• Performs repairs, emergency, and preventive maintenance.
• Reviews and estimates time and materials needed for repairs.
• Orders necessary materials and supplies for all tasks.
• Maintains an energy management program to operate systems efficiently.
• Repairs or replaces lighting system elements and ballasts.
• Completes miscellaneous engineering and maintenance tasks as needed.
• Responds quickly to emergency situations, summoning additional assistance if necessary.

Job requirements

• 3-5 years work experience in building maintenance and operations, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, pneumatic controls system, EMS and other building mechanical systems.
• Refrigeration or Electrical license a plus but not required.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook; experience with electronic work order and preventative maintenance systems.
• A valid Massachusetts driver’s license.

Work Conditions & Essential Physical Characteristics

• Work involves both indoor and outdoor tasks, including exposure to weather, fumes, electrical current, and machine noise.
• Frequent walking, standing, bending, climbing, repetitive hand movements, power hand grasping, and reaching above and below shoulder level.
• Occasional sitting, squatting, crawling, kneeling.
• Ability to operate assigned equipment and machinery. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds.

This individual will be a key member of our engineering staff, working under limited supervision, performing all maintenance duties and responding to work orders, tenant calls, and other operational/administrative duties for an urban office building in Boston.
