About the role
Shady Grove Medical Center seeks to hire an experienced Building Engineer III for our Operations Facilities Department.
Responsibilities
- Lead coordination of tasks of building maintenance technicians and journeymen and coordination of outside contractor support as needed or assigned to facilitate the completion of repairs and projects too large to be done in-house.
- Obtain appropriate approval from leadership and properly documents transactions.
- Provide trouble-shooting and repair efforts on commercial and hospital grade equipment.
- Operate, maintain, and service basic building assets, doors, HVAC systems, Building Automation Systems, CMMS, plumbing, steam, vessels, pumps, motors, fire protection, nurse call, and other building systems.
- Perform preventative maintenance support as well as identifies any recommendations for better equipment maintenance.
- Check and repair electrical fixtures, including ballasts , switches and outlets; replaces electrical switches, light bulbs, and fluorescent light tubes; checks and repairs basic plumbing fixtures, including spigots, traps and washers, and pipe fittings; makes minor repairs on mechanical equipment, such as furnaces, air conditioners, fans, pumps, gear boxes and conveyors; cleans and lubricates moving parts; packs glands; and performs various other preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment.
- Maintain and use all appropriate safety equipment, such as safety glasses, gloves, face shield, and coveralls.
- Perform all work following infection control procedures.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Maintain all written logs pertaining to shift responsibilities.
- Follow approved purchasing methods to purchase repair parts, tools, and supplies as needed to perform assigned tasks.
- Cover coordinate and assist master-trades personnel on difficult projects in performing more complex repairs.
- Provide energy management system (EMS)/building automation system (BAS) oversight to ensure building maintains maximum comfort and maximum energy set points and setbacks.
- Diagnose and repair of Direct Expansion (DX) HVAC equipment, ice machines, Commercial Air Handling Equipment (AHU), Variable Air Volume (VAV) for both variable volume and constant volume ventilation equipment.
- Researches and selects materials for HVAC systems installation, repair, and maintenance.
- Interpret as-built building blueprints and recommends system modifications for remodel projects in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including snow removal.
Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or equivalency.
- Five years’ experience working for a mechanical or general contractor, or experience in a commercial or hospital facilities environment.
- Successful completion of an approved and accredited Trade School or apprenticeship program.
- Preferred: Five (5) years of trades experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified, seven (7) years preferred.
- Journeyman or above in plumbing, HVACR, or electrical fields.
- Certification required in 4 of any building systems is required for this level.
- Medical Gas ASSE 6040, 6010, Pneumatic tube System, ASHE Health Care Physical Environment Worker Certification, NFPA Certified Electrical Worker, Additional certifications on a case-by-case basis.
- Advanced knowledge of basic repairs on electrical systems and fixtures, plumbing systems, and mechanical equipment in a commercial building.
- Advanced knowledge of wall repair, patch and paint following infection control guidelines in a commercial environment.
- Advanced knowledge of basic repairs of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems in a commercial environment.
- Valid driver’s license.
Skills
- Knowledge of basic repairs on electrical systems and fixtures, plumbing systems, and mechanical equipment in a commercial building.
- Knowledge of wall repair, patch and paint following infection control guidelines in a commercial environment.
- Knowledge of basic repairs of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems in a commercial environment.

Pay
$27.70 - $40.16/hr
Schedule
Full-time, 40 hours/week. Shifts may include weekends and holidays. Shift differential eligible.
