Building Control Secretary (10-month)

Position Responsibilities

  • Greet and direct employees, students, and parents in person and on the telephone
  • Prepare student referrals, attendance reports, and suspension reports
  • Prepare and distribute detention and suspension cards and letters
  • Prepare and maintain confidential student files
  • Assign student bus routes and lockers
  • Manage student lost and found
  • Manage student vehicle parking registration
  • Compile annual transportation data for state reporting
  • Cook up conferences for returning students and student hearings

Essential Skills And Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Knowledge of basic office procedures and operation of office machines/equipment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Valued But Not Required Skills And Experience

  • Experience working in a high school setting
  • Two years of secretarial or clerical experience
  • Completion of college coursework
  • Bilingual (English-Spanish) preferred

Physical Demands And Work Environment

  • While performing duties of job, employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear
  • Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal

Terms Of Employment

  • Teacher calendar plus 10 days prior to school year and 10 days after school year (200 days per school year)
  • Starting wage is $17.00-$18.70/hour based on education and verified experience
  • IMRF pension
  • Paid 30-minute lunch and two paid 15-minute breaks
  • Sick and personal days
  • Generous fringe benefits as provided by the current negotiated Agreement

Evaluation

  • Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the current negotiated AFT/IFT Local #943 Agreement and Board policy
