Building Automation Controls Technician - Temporary Assignment

ESG is seeking a Building Automation Controls Technician to join our Operations Services team at our Picatinny Arsenal location in Dover, NJ. This is an onsite, temporary assignment with an expected duration of 12-14 months.

About the role

This individual will be responsible for the troubleshooting, installation, repair, and maintenance of HVAC controls and building systems. The role leverages knowledge of HVAC systems and components to provide technical support to HVAC field technicians. The candidate should possess working knowledge of both construction and service of HVAC operations, as well as computer maintenance and repair.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair electrical wiring, relay logic, control/safety circuits, and electronic boards
• Adjust controls to ensure safe and efficient operation of systems
• Install, program, and start-up new building automation equipment as needed
• Interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and construction blueprints
• Recognize and respond to customer needs by completing preventative maintenance, repair, replacement, or adjustment of controls systems in a timely and efficient manner
• Maintain control systems including servers, operator stations, and mobile visualization software
• Install, repair, maintain, and adjust instruments used to measure and control variables such as pressure, flow, temperature, motion, force, and chemical composition
• Support software installation and configuration; perform technical, operational, and training support for onsite computer users
• Maintain master building automation display screens and update control points as needed
• Respond to after-hours service/emergency calls to maintain working equipment
• Communicate job progress and issues to supervisors/management
• Conduct Job Safety Analysis and ensure safe work practices
• Use and maintain personal protective equipment in good condition
• Adjust and repair final control mechanisms, such as automatically controlled valves or positioners, and calibrate instruments according to established standards
• Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring
• Install, test, repair, and troubleshoot stand-alone PCs, networked PCs, printers, and other computer peripherals
• Comply with all OSHA regulations

Requirements

• Minimum 3-6 years of experience in the building automation and instrumentation field
• Experience with mechanical/HVAC systems
• High school diploma or vocational/technical training
• Experience working with BACnet communication protocol
• High level of knowledge of network architecture

Preferred Qualifications

• 5 years of related experience in Energy Services, Performance Contracting, and/or HVAC Industry
• 2 years of experience with Delta controls and knowledge of GCL programming language
• OSHA 30 Training
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
