Build Engineer Internship (Fall Term 2026)
About the Role
Be one of the first 100 employees at Albedo, where you’ll have a big impact on proliferating Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) infrastructure. Albedo builds buses, integrated satellites, and turnkey missions for customers operating between 250 km - 400 km, leveraging proximity for performance and self-cleaning debris mitigation. This role involves hands-on mechanical and electromechanical assembly, supporting R&D prototypes, flight hardware, and production efficiency improvements.

Responsibilities
- Perform hands-on mechanical and electromechanical assembly of ground support equipment, R&D prototypes, and flight hardware.
- Contribute to the design and development of production workspaces, tooling, and inventory management systems to support build efficiency.
- Maintain and improve lab organization, tooling readiness, consumable stock levels, and overall safety compliance.
- Create, update, and refine work instructions, build documentation, and configuration tracking to ensure repeatable, high-quality builds.
- Support outsourced manufacturing efforts, including kit preparation, documentation handoff, on-site build support, post-build reviews, and driving continuous improvement with vendors.
- Collaborate with engineers to identify and implement design-for-manufacturability and design-for-assembly improvements.
Requirements
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Hands-on experience building or assembling mechanical or electromechanical systems (e.g., personal projects, robotics teams, Formula SAE, rocketry).
- Comfortable using common mechanical tools, shop equipment, and basic measurement tools (calipers, torque tools, multimeters).
- Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CREO, Onshape, or similar).
- Exposure to manufacturing processes such as machining, 3D printing, sheet metal, or PCB assembly is a plus.
- Experience documenting processes, writing work instructions, or maintaining build documentation is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality, repeatable builds.
- Organized, proactive, and strong problem-solving skills in a hands-on environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, technicians, and vendors in a fast-paced hardware development environment.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
Schedule
This role is open for the Fall 2026 term.
Pay
Hourly rate: $25–$29 per hour.
