Budget Analyst

About the role

The Budget Analyst ensures effective financial management across the organization by creating and analyzing budgets to support strategic decision-making and fiscal discipline.

Responsibilities

• Prepares, analyzes, and reviews budget proposals and funding requests for external funding, including grants
• Prepares comprehensive and detailed reports relating to budget preparation, submission, revisions, and performance
• Participates in the preparation of operating budgets and budget revisions
• Reviews and monitors grant expenditures
• Monitors budgets and notifies leadership of significant variances
• Takes appropriate corrective action to resolve budget variances
• Oversees expenditures and identifies trends in spending
• Provides technical assistance and support to managers
• Enters budget amendments and runs queries/reports utilizing Financial Edge or Yardi
• Interfaces with funders and other entities to resolve issues
• Ensures the organization’s compliance with funding requirements
• Works on special projects
• Prepares accounting entries for registers, journals, and logs
• Tracks and records grant expenditures
• Generates grant invoicing
• Records bank deposits
• Assists the Corporate Controller and Financial Manager to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements
• Supports Accounts Receivable activities to ensure accuracy and timeliness of invoice creation and entry
• Assists the Corporate Controller and Financial Manager with creating budgets and forecasts as requested
• Generates and monitors budget-to-actual financial activities
• Performs vendor verification
• Follows all established accounting processes
• Travels within the designated service area
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

• A high school degree or GED equivalent is required
• A bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred
• 2 years of accounting, bookkeeping, or financial analysis experience are required
• Experience in accounting or other financial management fields is required

Skills

• Understanding of applicable laws and regulations
• Advanced computer skills, specifically in Excel and accounting-related databases
• Knowledge of payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions (preferred)
• Advanced communication skills, both oral and written
• Advanced organizational skills
• Ability to maintain confidential information
• Ability to use appropriate databases, spreadsheets, and other software
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle
• Appropriate level of auto insurance coverage
• Ability to manage deadlines within a fast-paced, high-volume environment
• Ability to operate in an Internet-based, automated office environment
• Ability to maintain a high-speed internet connection

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time

Pay

$60,000 to $75,300 annually, based on experience, education, and/or licensure.
