Budget Analyst
Salary range: $6,031.00 - $7,547.00 per month. Effective July 1, 2025, this salary excludes a temporary reduction under the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025. New state employees will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification.
About the role
Under the direction of a Supervisor I, the Budget Analyst II performs complex budget-related tasks and fiscal analysis for the California Public Utilities Commission’s (CPUC) multi-funded budget. The role involves assisting in the development and administration of the CPUC’s budget, including preparation and review of required schedules, Budget Change Proposals, legislative bill analysis, Department of Finance (DOF) reports, and related fiscal documents. The incumbent will handle technical budgetary assignments with department-wide impact.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the development and administration of the CPUC’s budget.
- Prepare and review required budget schedules, Budget Change Proposals, and fiscal documents.
- Conduct legislative bill analysis and prepare Department of Finance (DOF) reports.
- Perform technical budgetary assignments that impact the entire department.
Requirements
- Eligibility for the Analyst II classification through the standard examination process or the Limited Examination and Appointment Program (LEAP) for applicants with disabilities.
- Prepare and submit a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) detailing how your training, experience, and education qualify you for the position. The SOQ must be in 11-point Arial font, single-spaced, and no more than two pages. All information is subject to verification.
- Submit a cover letter (no more than one page, 11-point Arial font, single-spaced) describing your qualifications.
- Provide a resume and complete the State Examination/Employment Application (STD 678), including all relevant experience, education, and contact information for supervisors. Resumes alone will not suffice.
- If using education to meet minimum qualifications, submit a copy of your transcript or diploma. Foreign degrees must be verified for U.S. equivalency by the application deadline.
