About the role

WROC/RochesterFirst is hiring a Broadcast Maintenance Technician to join our award-winning team. Located in Rochester, NY, this position assists with the day-to-day repair and maintenance of the station, studios, TV equipment, and our transmitter.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain all broadcast technology and equipment for the station and transmitter sites.
  • Familiarity with Ross Overdrive, Robotic cameras, Chyron Prime, NewsTicker, and other production tools preferred.
  • Work closely with the Chief Engineer to implement technologies and infrastructure for the station.
  • Aid in installing, preventative maintenance, repairing, and troubleshooting of all station equipment.
  • Maintain and help repair studio and transmitter HVAC systems.
  • Maintain, install, and repair studio lighting, computers, furniture, and other equipment.
  • Aid in maintaining station vehicle fleet, including live satellite trucks and management vehicles.
  • Aid in capital-based projects, including design, installation, and maintenance.
  • Tune in remote sources for on-air and off-air use via TVU Receivers.
  • Ingest commercial spots, local promotional spots, and syndicated local and network programing to the Master Control Hub.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Skills

  • Technical Degree in Engineering, Communications, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Must be versatile and able to adapt to constantly evolving systems and devices.
  • Experience with digital electronics systems in a television broadcasting environment preferred.
  • Fluency in English; strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Preferred experience with Ross Video XPression and OverDrive.
  • Preferred experience with OBS and other streaming platforms.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills preferred.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work extended hours occasionally as needed (including overnights and weekends).
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record is required.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

The Maintenance Engineer must be able to stand for long periods, sit, reach, climb ladders, conduct telephone conversations, and use electronic mail. They will make decisions without supervision and work closely with others. This position will sometimes work outdoors in all weather conditions and sometimes work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. The Maintenance Engineer must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 40 pounds, and be able to work with their hands and handle tools or controls. Repetitive movements are sometimes required.

Pay

$37,000-$40,000 annualized commensurate with applicant’s experience and skill level.
