About the role
The weaver operates 13–23 weaving machines, creeling and threading various yarns through metal loom devices to produce woven fabric.
Responsibilities
- Lift cones of yarn weighing 8–25 lbs and place them on creel racks.
- Stand for the entire twelve-hour shift (except breaks).
- Pull cones of yarn off racks hourly and reach across looms to locate and repair yarn breaks frequently.
- Push-pull creel or cone racks to reposition them.
- Walk continuously between machines during the shift.
- Step onto catwalks attached to looms.
- Distinguish between yarn colors and loom indicator lights (yellow, blue, red).
- Pass a hearing test; work in a high-noise area requiring ear protection while communicating verbally with shift foreman and co-workers.
- Rethread yarn breaks frequently; minimum height of 5'0" required for this task.
- Set up creel racks and repair yarn breakouts on looms independently.
- Respond to loom indicator lights and repair yarn breaks promptly to meet production requirements.
- Decide when and how to correct yarn breakouts and set up creel racks.
- Perform hourly quality control checks and make corrections as needed to meet production demands.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; ability to read and write.
- No computer skills required.
- Previous machinery work background or strong interest in working with machinery.
- Good physical condition to stand for the entire 12-hour shift.
- Clean work record with no accidents, due to working around moving machinery.
