Bridge Superintendent - Heavy Civil Construction

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating equipment, crews, and other job-related activities, ensuring work, personnel, and equipment are accurately planned and executed to maximize efficiency.
  • Scheduling bridge, grading, drainage, paving, structures, and other miscellaneous highway construction crews and subcontractors.
  • Inspecting all work-in-progress to ensure work conforms to specifications and plans.
  • Maintaining, protecting, securing, and using resources assigned at optimum efficiency.
  • Reviewing, maintaining, and monitoring crews' productivity and daily goals.
  • Directly overseeing time sheets for labor and equipment, as well as daily reports complete with quantities worked.
  • Conducting daily huddles, stretching exercises, and weekly Toolbox Talks with crews.
  • Developing Daily Hazard Analyses as well as job Activity Hazard Analyses prior to new work activities and reviewing with crews.
  • Identifying extra work or changes in conditions and reporting to Project Manager/Project Engineer.
  • Enforcing quality control and Company safety policies on all aspects of construction.
  • Promoting and adhering to on-the-job training of personnel and corporate safety standards.
  • Assisting with survey and field layout.
  • Aiding estimators and engineers during the pursuit of new work.
  • Developing and maintaining client, subcontractor, and team member relationships.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years related experience in field crew management of civil highway bridge construction operations required; 8+ years related experience in major bridge construction, preferred.
  • Current OSHA (30 Hour) Certification, or willingness to obtain certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Excellent organizational and planning, written and verbal communication, and supervisory skills are required.
  • Valid Driver License.

Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of bridge construction means and methods including experience with Pile Driving, Concrete Forming, Steel or Concrete Beam Erection, Temporary and Permanent Shoring, Cofferdams, Drilled-shaft Foundations, Bridge Deck Forming, and Concrete Placement.
  • Understanding project budgets and productions to manage personnel and equipment efficiently.
  • A working knowledge of all required plans and specifications.
  • Knowledge of survey controls, grade checking, and bridge geometry.
