This position involves operating power-driven bridges to ensure safe operations for vehicle and boat traffic, adhering to Coast Guard regulations and DOTD policies.
Job Duties and Other Information
- Operates power-driven drawbridge(s) to maintain safe operations according to Coast Guard regulations and DOTD policies.
- Trains lower-level Bridge and Lock Operators in bridge operation and related duties.
- Prepares bridge logs documenting bridge openings and closings in response to marine vessel signals.
- Communicates with vessel operators using the marine radio.
- Conducts visual inspections of bridges to ensure safe operation.
- Reports and addresses mechanical or electrical issues.
- Cleans the interior of the bridge house, grounds area, and roadway approaches.
- Performs other duties as necessary, including emergency/disaster support activities.

- Career Progression: Vacancies may be filled as Bridge and Lock Operator 1 or Bridge and Lock Operator 2 based on experience.
- Salary Range: Maximum monthly salary for Bridge and Lock Operator 2 is $5,360.
