BRIDGE AND LOCK OPERATOR 1-2
About the role
This position operates power-driven drawbridges, ensuring safe operations for vehicle and boat traffic according to Coast Guard regulations and DOTD policies. The position trains lower-level Bridge and Lock Operators and performs various maintenance tasks.
Responsibilities
- Operates power-driven drawbridges, ensuring safe operations consistent with Coast Guard regulations and DOTD policies.
- Trains lower-level Bridge and Lock Operators in the operation of the bridge(s) and in all other related duties.
- Prepares bridge logs and documents bridge openings and closings in response to marine vessel signals.
- Uses the marine radio to communicate with vessel operators.
- Conducts visual inspections of the bridge(s) to ensure safe operation.
- Reports mechanical or electrical problems to appropriate personnel and/or takes necessary corrective action.
- Lubricates operating machinery.
- Checks fluid and performs routine maintenance on emergency generators to ensure proper operation.
- Cleans the interior of the bridge house; maintains grounds area surrounding the bridge; cleans the roadway approaches and bridge deck of debris.
- May be required to perform other duties as necessary, including emergency/disaster support activities.

Qualifications
The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Applicants must pass a background check and drug screening.
Skills
Must have strong communication skills, ability to operate heavy machinery, and knowledge of Coast Guard regulations and DOTD policies.

Pay
- Bridge and Lock Operator 1: $16.06 hourly
- Bridge and Lock Operator 2: $17.18 hourly
