About the role

The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) seeks a WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor to join a dedicated team supporting the overall mission of protecting lives of Georgia residents.

Responsibilities

  • Counsels and provides breastfeeding information and support to WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.
  • Helps breastfeeding mothers overcome common barriers and get a good start with breastfeeding.
  • Completes competency checks, attends training, and maintains accurate records of contacts.
  • Makes routine contact with WIC participants, attends support groups, and assists in promoting breastfeeding.
  • Issues breast pump and breastfeeding supplies as needed.

Requirements

  • Has breastfed at least one baby for a minimum period of 6 months.
  • Is a current or former WIC participant.
  • Available for working a minimum of 10 hours per week.
  • Has reliable transportation.
  • Has good communication and basic computer skills.

Qualifications

  • Must be a previous or current WIC participant.
  • Available to work 8 hours in a designated Health Department each week.
  • This is not a remote position.

Skills

  • Positive attitude towards breastfeeding.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
