Location: Oak Park, Illinois – Rush Oak Park Hospital, Breast Center

Full-time (1.0 FTE), Shift 1 (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM)

About the role

The Sonographer has formal training from an accredited Ultrasound, Vascular, or Echocardiography program and possesses or is eligible to acquire certification in any of the registries defined by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). These include Abdominal (AB), Breast (BR), Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN), Neurosonology (NE), Adult Echocardiography (AE), Pediatric Echocardiography (PE), Fetal Echocardiography (FE), Vascular (RVT), Musculoskeletal Sonography (MSK), and the CCI registry.

Primary duties include creation of diagnostic sonographs that meet the quality standards of the profession and the department and the provision of patient- and family-focused care in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

Requirements

• Formal training in an accredited Ultrasound Program
• Registry or registry-eligible with ARDMS or CCI
• Proficient in modality physics and operation of equipment
• Knowledge of human anatomy, pathology, and physiology
• Good interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work in a team-oriented environment
• Full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients when necessary
• Ability to perform diagnostic sonographs on a portable basis
• Manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination

Compensation levels are determined by ARDMS registries held:

• Level 1: one ARDMS registry – $38.02–$61.88 per hour
• Level 2: two ARDMS registries – $38.02–$61.88 per hour
• Level 3: three ARDMS registries – $38.02–$61.88 per hour
• Level 4: four ARDMS registries – $38.02–$61.88 per hour

Responsibilities

• Provide patient- and family-focused care that supports a welcoming, supportive environment and a positive patient experience
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality
• Follow departmental protocols and procedures in the performance of exams; produce work that meets quality standards
• Identify and flag abnormalities
• Produce work in an efficient manner that meets departmental productivity standards
• Maintain the physical work environment in a manner that meets departmental and regulatory requirements
• Demonstrate working knowledge of the IT systems that support the modality
• Report supply shortages or equipment failures to section supervisor
• Follow work and patient schedules
• Assist physicians in the performance of procedures
• Maintain logs and documentation as per departmental protocol
• Provide patient history or information necessary for proper interpretation of the procedure
• Maintain licensure/registry status as determined by state or regulatory bodies
• Participate in the training and development of students assigned to the area through clinical affiliations
• Fill department staffing needs as identified by the management team
