About the role

The Breast Imaging Supervisor oversees and manages the day-to-day operations of the Breast Imaging team, including mammography, breast ultrasound, and breast MRI guided biopsy services. This role ensures regulatory compliance with MQSA and ACR standards, manages staff schedules, oversees patient care navigation, occasionally assists in performing breast imaging studies if staffing warrants, and coordinates clinical workflows with radiologists, surgeons, and oncology teams. The Supervisor maintains high-quality imaging standards, supports technologist development, and fosters a culture of excellence in patient care and safety.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all patient navigation responsibilities to ensure coordinated and efficient patient care, including arranging and coordinating follow-up appointments, entering pathology results into the Radiology Information System (RIS), and producing related reports.
• Explain breast imaging study results and pathology reports to patients and family members in layman’s terms, addressing all questions and concerns.
• Obtain brief medical histories from patients, noting conditions that may affect their ability to tolerate procedures, and inform technologists and radiologists of special circumstances (e.g., anticoagulant use, high anxiety).
• Provide continuity of care for patients while in the Radiology Department as needed.
• Manage daily and monthly staff schedules, including real-time communication on staffing changes, equipment downtime, and workflow adjustments.
• Coordinate cross-coverage, training, and onboarding for new team members, ensuring readiness for regulatory reviews across all breast imaging facilities.
• Directly supervise clinical and non-clinical team members, including technologists and healthcare assistants, managing daily assignments, performance reviews, and competency development.
• Promote teamwork, professional growth, and accountability across all roles.
• Oversee MQSA, ACR, and state inspection processes, including on-site inspections, accreditation applications, and annual submissions.
• Maintain required records and documentation for personnel, equipment, QC, and outcome audits, including log books, QC testing, and corrective action tracking.
• Serve as a liaison between Breast Imaging, Surgery, Oncology, and the Operating Room to coordinate add-on procedures, same-day diagnostics, and biopsy scheduling.
• Collaborate with radiologists on imaging protocols, patient care decisions, and process improvements.
• Allocate dedicated administrative time weekly for leadership duties, including performance management, policy development, budget monitoring, and operational planning.
• Participate in departmental leadership meetings and support strategic and quality initiatives.
• Monitor and maintain equipment functionality, coordinating with vendors, BioMed, and Engineering for service or repair.
• Oversee supply levels and purchasing coordination with Central Supply.
• Participate in capital planning, space design, and new equipment evaluations.
• When staffing warrants, assist in conducting ordered breast imaging studies, ensuring high-level image quality, patient positioning, and safety.
• Provide hands-on clinical support and guidance to staff during imaging and biopsy procedures.

Requirements

• Associate's Degree (Required).
• 1-3 years of Breast Imaging experience (Required).
• 1-3 years of supervisory experience (Minimum of 6 months preferred).
• BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross (Required).
• RTR-RT Radiography certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (Required).
• RTM-RT Mammography certification from ARRT (Required).

Skills

• Proficiency in mammography, breast ultrasound, and breast MRI biopsy procedures.
• In-depth knowledge of MQSA, ACR accreditation requirements, and equipment documentation.
• Ability to oversee and maintain quality assurance programs and regulatory compliance.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
• Knowledge of age-specific care needs of patients.
• Effective interpersonal skills for productive communication and collaboration.
• Ability to provide coaching, feedback, and technical guidance to technologists and staff.
• Skilled in operating imaging systems and interpreting physician orders.
• Sound judgment in patient positioning, imaging settings, and safety practices.
• Professionalism and patient-centered care in all interactions.
• Competency in PACS and EMR systems, ensuring data integrity and protection of PHI.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite; Epic preferred.

Pay

$43.16 - $66.90 per hour.
