About the role
Located in Deer Trail, Davies Library serves a small, rural community. The library shares space with the local school, creating a unique environment that requires thoughtful leadership, strong relationship-building, and an understanding of multiple service needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily library operations by allocating resources, prioritizing work, sharing information, and making decisions that support efficient branch operations.
- Troubleshoot facility and equipment concerns and coordinate with other departments as needed.
- Create staff schedules that ensure appropriate coverage and excellent service.
- Provide direct patron assistance and support collection maintenance and materials handling as needed.
- Maintain a relationship with the Deer Trail School to support building and school community needs.
Supervision and Leadership
- Recruit, interview, hire, train, and develop employees.
- Monitor performance, provide coaching and feedback, and support professional growth.
- Manage scheduling, timekeeping, assignments, priorities, and department operations.
- Foster collaboration, communication, team building, and adaptability.
- Support organizational initiatives and contribute to branch-level planning.
- Lead by example and work alongside staff to support excellent service.
Customer Relations
- Build positive relationships with staff, patrons, and community members.
- Resolve concerns by researching issues, evaluating options, and identifying solutions.
- Support outreach and relationship-building efforts that strengthen community connections.
Projects and Organizational Contributions
- Participate in project teams and cross-functional initiatives.
- Contribute to district work as a team member or project manager.
- May lead district trainings and support broader organizational priorities.
Qualifications
- Two years of similar or related experience, such as library service or customer service.
- 0-2 years of supervisory experience.
- Experience teaching, training, or mentoring others.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to demonstrate effective leadership skills, including practical thinking, problem solving, adaptability, coaching, mentoring, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to keep confidential information.
- Ability to travel between facilities.
- Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to work independently, be proactive, and show initiative.
- Ability to prioritize and delegate tasks.
- Intermediate technology skills for Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook), Microsoft Edge, and Microsoft Teams, with the ability to learn and apply new technologies.
- Ability to demonstrate curiosity in the technological and online resources the library provides and learn alongside patrons.
- Ability to communicate new ideas, products, and services in a positive and engaging manner.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for an environment of constant change.
- Ability to work with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds.
