Brake Operator I

About the role

This position is responsible for basic form operations and set-ups on a full-time, permanent, day-shift basis.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties as assigned by the Brake Lead.
• Develop operator skills.
• Run out set-ups that have been proven, and make minor changes in tooling and machine controller to maintain tolerance on very specific dimensions, as assigned by the Brake Lead.
• Know how to measure dimensions with dial calipers, squares, and protractors.
• Clean department when needed (sweeping, mopping, wiping down the brakes).
• Help higher-level operators by assisting with material handling or large parts.
• Move as directed by the Brake Lead to other areas of the shop as the workload dictates.
• Help keep the Brake Department area clean and orderly.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Make minor adjustments to machines as directed by the Brake Lead, and anticipate some duties before being asked.
• Begin using “k” factors.
• Use shop math to perform simple part “back-checks”.

Requirements

• 1-year working experience in a precision sheet metal environment with a minimum of 6 months as a Brake Operator.
• Ability to read and understand written documents.
• Ability to visually differentiate between metal types such as aluminum and steel.
• Know how to use dial calipers, squares, and protractor.
• Know how to use a calculator and perform basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
• Understand basic third-angle projection as it pertains to print interpretation and comprehend most basic print callouts and notes.
• Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

Pay

$22 - $24 per hour
