BrainWAVE Parent or Caregiver Volunteer

Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada is a national charity that supports, educates, and funds research for the over 55,000 Canadians living with a brain tumour.

About the role

As a Brainwave Committee member, you will help shape programs that support families affected by pediatric brain tumours. Your experiences and insights as a parent or caregiver of a child (19 years or younger) with a brain tumour diagnosis are essential to ensuring decisions are informed, impactful, and connected to the real needs of the community. We welcome diverse perspectives and encourage individuals from all backgrounds to participate.

To ensure readiness for this commitment, volunteers are recommended to be at least one year beyond their child’s active treatment, allowing time to focus on personal well-being before getting involved.

Responsibilities

• Contribute firsthand experiences to guide program development for families affected by pediatric brain tumours.
• Participate in committee meetings and discussions to inform decisions.
• Engage in flexible, remote, or in-person activities based on your availability.

Requirements

• Currently or previously a parent or caregiver to a child (19 years or younger) with a brain tumour.
• Willing to undergo a Vulnerable Sector Police Check (cost reimbursed).
• Commitment of 5–7 hours per month, with more frequent meetings closer to events.
• Two-year term, with the opportunity to renew for one additional term.

Skills

• Firsthand experience as a parent or caregiver of a child with a brain tumour.
• Ability to contribute diverse perspectives in a collaborative setting.

Location

Available in multiple Winnipeg areas, including Assiniboine South, Downtown, Elmwood, Fort Garry, Inkster, Point Douglas, River East, River Heights, Seven Oaks, St. Boniface, St. James-Assiniboa, St. Vital, and Transcona. Remote participation is also an option.

Schedule

Flexible hours, including daytime, evening, and weekend availability. Time commitment varies, with increased activity closer to events.
