BrainWave Committee Member Position - Community Outreach

Organization: Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada – supporting brain tumour patients, caregivers, and research through education, advocacy, and funding.

About the role

Community Outreach Volunteer: help fundraise and build partnerships by connecting with local businesses, securing sponsorships, and supporting BrainWave events across Winnipeg.

Responsibilities

• Identify and secure cash and in-kind sponsors for events.
• Source food, beverage, and vendor donations (catering, entertainment, equipment).
• Negotiate sponsorship agreements with local businesses.
• Support sponsor recognition and fulfillment.
• Maintain positive relationships with community partners and site hosts.
• Assist in drafting sponsorship proposals, thank-you letters, and event recaps.
• Capture event photos, testimonials, and key moments for marketing.

Requirements

• Post-secondary education in Event Management, Fundraising, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field is an asset.
• 1–3 years of experience in event coordination, fundraising, or corporate engagement.
• Proven track record of securing gifts or sponsorships.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-management skills.
• Vulnerable Sector Police Check required (cost reimbursed).

Schedule

• Flexible commitment: 5–7 hours per month, with increased hours closer to events.
• Daytime, evening, and weekend availability; some remote work possible.
• Two-year term with option to renew for one additional term.

Winnipeg neighbourhoods: Assiniboine South, Downtown, Elmwood, Fort Garry, Inkster, Point Douglas, River East, River Heights, Seven Oaks, St. Boniface, St. James-Assiniboa, St. Vital, Transcona.
