12-month, 8-hour-day position at Brainerd Learning Center under the Director of Building & Grounds. Salary range: $16.29–$29.60 per hour.
About the Role
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Buildings and Grounds, the day engineer maintains high custodial standards, conducts maintenance in school buildings and grounds, keeps equipment in functional condition, and demonstrates excellent time management and communication skills. Requires a 1st Class C Boilers License or the ability to obtain it within an agreed-upon timeframe.
Responsibilities
- Perform all standard custodial duties
- Regulate heating, ventilation, and cooling mechanical systems
- Maintenance and repair of plumbing and electrical systems
- Maintenance and repair of fire and clock systems
- Repair and maintenance of kitchen and cafeteria equipment
- Carpentry tasks
- Manage energy recovery systems and hydronic building heating systems
- Order and maintain chemical supplies
- Support all school district and community activities
- Ensure building security
- Communicate building or personnel issues to the Director of Buildings and Grounds
- Boiler operation
- Lockout/tagout procedures
- Confined space entry
- Maintain and operate lawn, tractor, weed-whip, and other lawn equipment
- Maintain and operate snow removal equipment
- Operate aerial lifts over ten feet
- Operate school district vehicles according to district guidelines
- Schedule and oversee maintenance activities
- Schedule and supervise employees
Equipment
- Hand tools of the trade and related power equipment
- Brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines
- Vacuum cleaners
- Snow blowers, shovels
- Power mowers and hand tools
Safety Requirements
- Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures, and regulations for tool and power-equipment use
- Use appropriate safety gear
- Comply with the school district’s chemical hygiene program and follow SDS guidelines
Skills & Abilities
- Follow oral or written work orders and coordinate with principals and others
- Read, write, and speak English fluently
- Describe cleaning, maintenance, or repair problems orally or in writing
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and others
- Perform basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
- Work in poor weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow)
- Work above ground from ladders and automatic lifts
- Perform work according to standard procedures and schedules
Physical & Mental Demands
- Work in standard office and school building environments
- Work outdoors in inclement weather
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- Frequent walking, bending, twisting, turning, and crouching
- See and hear sufficiently to perform essential duties
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals, solvents, contaminated trash, grasses, and pollens
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent education sufficient for the role
- Previous experience in building maintenance and cleaning
- MN Motor Vehicle Operator’s license or ability to provide own transportation
