About the role

The U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) is hiring immediate entry-level positions for federal law enforcement careers. These roles require prior experience in public safety, security, military police, or law enforcement.

Responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws.
  • Inspect documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
  • Prevent and apprehend undocumented non-citizens and smugglers near the borders.
  • Maintain surveillance and conduct night operations using infrared scopes.
  • Interpret and follow tracks, marks, and other physical evidence of illegal entry.
  • Perform farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks.
  • Patrol the international border and coastal waterways using various government assets.

Requirements

  • One year of general work experience demonstrating leadership, decision-making, and stress management.
  • One year of specialized work experience showing skills in making arrests, dealing with people, and analyzing information.
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with at least three years of continuous U.S. residency.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and meet age requirements.
  • Ability to speak and read Spanish, in addition to English.

Qualifications

  • GL-5: One year of general work experience or a bachelor's degree with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • GL-7: One year of specialized work experience or a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement, or a combination of experience and education.
  • GL-9 and GS-11: Previous or current law enforcement or military law enforcement experience.

Benefits

  • Up to $60,000 in additional incentives.
  • Excellent base pay ranging from $51,632 to $92,912 per year.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and retirement plans.
  • Up to 25% additional pay due to the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014.

Pay

  • Annual Base Salary varies per grade, GL-5/GL-7 ranges from $51,632 to $92,912 per year.

Schedule

  • Full-time positions available.
  • Duty locations include the Southwest Border, with prioritized locations such as Sierra Blanca, TX; Presidio, TX; Sanderson, TX; Comstock, TX; Lordsburg, NM; Freer, TX; Hebbronville, TX; Ajo, AZ.
