About the role

The U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) is hiring immediate entry-level positions for federal law enforcement careers. Ideal candidates have experience in public safety, security, military police, or law enforcement.

Responsibilities

  • Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws.
  • Inspect documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
  • Prevent and apprehend undocumented non-citizens and smugglers.
  • Perform farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks.
  • Patrol the international border and coastal waterways using various government assets.

Requirements

  • One year of general work experience demonstrating leadership, decision-making, and stress management.
  • One year of specialized work experience showing skills in making sound judgments, dealing with people effectively, and analyzing information quickly.
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and have had primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.
  • Must not be younger than 21 years old at the time of appointment and not older than 40 at the time of selection.
  • Ability to speak and read Spanish, as well as English.

Qualifications

  • GL-5: One year of general work experience or a bachelor's degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • GL-7: One year of specialized work experience or a bachelor's degree with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, or a combination of education and experience.

Benefits

  • Annual Base Salary ranging from $51,632 to $92,912 per year.
  • Exceptional benefits including health, dental, and other insurance plans, generous leave programs, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan.
  • Up to $60,000 in additional incentives, including a $20,000 recruitment incentive and up to $40,000 in retention incentives over the first four years.

Pay and Schedule

  • Base pay varies based on grade level (GL-5/GL-7).
  • Locality pay can vary based on duty location.
  • Up to 25% of base pay may be added based on performance.

Schedule

  • Full-time positions.
  • Opportunities for relocation to various duty locations.
