About the role

The U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) is hiring immediate entry-level positions for federal law enforcement careers. These roles require prior experience in public safety, security, military police, or law enforcement.

Responsibilities

  • Deterring illicit activity and safeguarding borders
  • Inspecting documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations
  • Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers
  • Maintaining surveillance and conducting night operations
  • Interpreting and following tracks, marks, and other physical evidence
  • Performing various types of checks and patrols
  • Patrolling the international boundary and coastal waterways

Requirements

  • One year of general work experience or a combination of education and experience
  • One year of specialized work experience or a combination of education and experience for the GL-7 grade level
  • Citizenship: U.S. Citizen
  • Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
  • Age restriction: Before 40 years old
  • Veterans’ preference: Eligible

Qualifications

  • GL-5: Experience or combination of education and experience
  • GL-7: Experience or combination of education and experience, plus superior academic achievement or graduate-level education

Skills

Ability to speak and read Spanish, as well as English. Proficiency with Spanish language training provided at the U.S. Border Patrol Academy.

Benefits

  • Annual Base Salary ranging from $51,632 to $92,912 per year
  • Exceptional benefits including health, dental, and other insurance plans, generous leave programs, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan
  • Up to $60,000 in additional incentives including recruitment and retention incentives

Pay

Salary varies per grade, as follows: GL-5/GL-7 $51,632- $92,912 per year
