About the Role

A Barnes & Noble bookstore is a gathering place for readers and the community. As a Bookseller, you are an integral member of the bookselling team at the heart of our stores. You welcome customers in a cheerful and helpful way, connect readers with the right titles and products, and maintain the attractive presentation and efficient operation of the store.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers warmly, answer questions, and assist them in finding products.
• Unpack, shelve, and organize deliveries to maintain store presentation.
• Operate registers efficiently to provide quick and friendly service.
• Tidy and maintain displays, including books, gifting, toys, and other product categories.
• Develop merchandising and visual merchandising skills to enhance product presentation.
• Support the receiving and shelving of deliveries accurately and efficiently.
• Locate books and products using store tools, personal knowledge, or colleague assistance.
• Assist the café team when needed.
• Understand and apply loss prevention procedures and de-escalation techniques.
• Build and apply knowledge of books, toys, games, music, movies, and newsstand products to assist customers and maintain sections.
• Make effective book recommendations and support key sales initiatives (e.g., Monthly Picks, Book of the Year, Membership, preorders).
• Engage in physical activities including prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and walking.
• Collaborate with the wider team and work in other stores if needed.

• Quickly and accurately locate books and products using store tools and knowledge.

Pay

An employee in this position can expect an hourly rate starting at $16.00, depending on experience, seniority, geographic location, and other factors permitted by law.
